Le Domaine de la Sauvageonne was rescued from the scrubland and planted 30 years ago. Although the domaine was planted some thirty years ago, La Sauvageonne changed ownership in August 2001. With its young and dynamic team, they have selected certain parcels to create a new range of wines.
Wine maker Gavin Crisfield states; "Having searched for 18 months for the ideal terroir, it was clear from our very first visit that the potential for quality, at this domaine, was remarkable."
"Les Ruffes" vines are located on the lower slopes, between 100m and 150m. This red soil of volcanic origin gives supple and fruity wines often with a slight toasty note. A medium ruby red in color with sweet cherry fruit and hints of white pepper. A good weight of jammy fruit, supple tannins and a long finish make this an outstanding value wine.
