Wine Pick of the Week; April 4th, 2009
The team at Seresin Estate has taken its biodynamic and organic philosophies to the next logical step by fashioning the MOMO wines from sustainably grown grapes. Respect for the Earth is not their only mantra, as they are also strong believers in a wine's duty to seamlessly pair with food. Every effort, including harvesting before dawn and after sunset to retain natural acidity, is made to ensure that MOMO's wines have the balance to match Marlborough's Wairau Valley's innate ripeness of fruit.
When the first growers planted grapes in Marlborough in the 1970s, it's unlikely they would have foreseen the extent of the growth and fame the region's wine industry would achieve based upon a single varietal; Sauvignon Blanc. The distinctive pungency and zesty fruit flavors of the first Marlborough Sauvignons captured the imagination of the country's winemakers as well as international wine commentators and consumers and sparked an unparalleled boom in vineyard development. The region had estimated to reach 11,153 producing hectares in 2008.
Aromas of tropical fruit and citrus with a hint of minerality. The palate is textural and rich with ripe tropical fruit and grapefruit. With a finish that is crisp and dry, this makes a perfect match with all types of seafood & summer salads--or just by itself as a refreshing aperitif.

| The image of the hand is a symbol of strength, gateway to the heart, tiller of the soil, the mark of the artisan, and embodies the philosophy of Seresin Estate. Our grapes, estate grown on the Wairau River’s warm alluvial terraces, are picked at the close of the long Marlborough summer. In the winery, minimal intervention allows the layers of flavour to evolve, so the wines are a natural expression of the soil from which they come. |
